The Catholic priest in Queensland who's been sacked for preaching outside the church's guidelines has vowed to take his congregation with him unless he is reinstated.
Over the weekend, St Mary's church in Brisbane held their last masses lead by Father Peter Kennedy.
The Catholic church have sacked him for leading unorthodox masses, performing same-sex marriage ceremonies and not respecting the church hierarchy...
The Brisbane Archbishop John Bathesby originally said that the interim priest Father Ken Howell would lead yesterday's masses... but Father Kennedy refused to hand over the keys...
And after an alleged bomb threat to the Archbishop... Father Ken Howell said he wouldn't be coming.
Kaitlyn Sawrey was there yesterday evening... with about a thousand people in attendance.
The Archbishop of Brisbane and the interim priest of St Mary's Father Ken Howell were not available for interview today...
but in a statement Archbishop Bathersby said "in this difficult situation I believe a sensible next step would be to have an experienced, independent eminent mediator meet with the Archdiocese and Father Kennedy to attempt to achieve a peaceful and dignified outcome to the current impasse"
Father Peter Kennedy has rejected any mediation unless it considers his reinstalment as the priest at St Mary's.
The whole debacle is threatening to shape the future of the Catholic church in Australia and divide followers. If Peter Kennedy is not re-instated he may split from the church and take his congregation with him.
Anyone, especially Catholics, who support Peter Kennedy should complain to their local Catholic Church to express their support that he be re-instated as a priest.
